Laura Skinner is in charge of reference and instruction at the Betty Sue Jessup library at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Prior to working at PVCC, she worked at the University of Virginia Law Library for several years, and it was while there that she decided to formalize her library work by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Currently she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology at Virginia Technological Institute, and plans to obtain a PhD in the same field.
Abstract
The easy availability of Internet information has caused many to question the future of libraries. However, librarians, as experts of information science, are even more necessary to help students navigate the Internet. An embedded librarian provides assistance at the most critical point – exactly when it is needed.
